Our beautiful Camp is situated in the middle of a Conservation Area established in 1998, known as Baobab Valley Conservation Area. It offers a variety of excursions to view Game, do a spot of Birding, take a Boat Trip, do some Fishing or do one of the different designated walks. Baobab Valley Camp lies in the Centre of the Southern Circuit of Tanzania’s National Parks and Game Reserves, about 120 km East of Iringa and 65 km West of Mikumi. Baobab Valley Camp is a green oasis set in breathtaking semiarid landscape marked by thousands upon thousands of Baobab trees and with the mighty Great Ruaha River flowing through it.

From the camp our visitors can enjoy a wonderful day trip to Mikumi National Park or to Udzungwa Mountain National Park. The Camp is also a good base to set out for the Ruaha National Park, Katavi National Park and many other hidden treasures of Western and Southern Tanzania! Further afield you can travel to Lake Malawi (or Lake Nyasa) with its beautiful beaches, or see the Livingstonia Plateau, or even walk in the footprints of the early Missionaries and to Nyika National Park – Malawi’s most hidden secret. Relax at Baobab Valley Camp whilst sipping a cold drink in the Main Lounge/Bar Lapa.

Here you can overlook the Great Ruaha River and the Northern Boundary of the Udzungwa National Park. Baobab Valley Camp is a favourite meeting point of many a traveller through Eastern and Southern Africa, with the chance to meet local and other Valley friends alike. Enjoy the ambiance of the Restaurant Lapa while having a tastefully prepared meal from our kitchen using much of our own home grown produce. Stroll along the river, whilst in the company of many varieties of birds, dragonflies, butterflies and the monkeys that inhabit the riverine forest.

Baobab Valley Camp offers a wide variety of accommodation ranging from a separate Over lander area to shady Garden Campsites for self-drivers situated in mature green grounds to Luxury River Suites. Garden Chalets and Garden Bandas complete the variety. After the first night in our Honeymoon Suite, facing directly onto the Great Ruaha River, it will be difficult for you to leave. A public campsite facing the river will be soon be ready as well.

Thanks to our Social Engagement Plan we have plenty of contacts with local people, from the local Masai tribe, to local Schools and the village Dispensary, so we recommend you take a Cultural Village Tour to meet our delightful local Tanzanian people. Baobab Valley Camp is a great place for Birding, Boating with the MV Maradadi and also for Fishing, you get easily a Permit from us. A sunset cruise with thousands of birds greeting the early morning, a sunrise trip with picnic at the river bank or a Barbecue at the pool are only few water based activities of the Baobab Valley Camp. If you are lucky, you will see wild Elephants at the Riverbank!

Our Camp is situated along the Great North Road, the A 7, some 1 ½ hour’s drive (120 kms) east of Iringa town. From Baobab Valley Camp to Dar es Salaam it’s a 6 hours drive (380 kms).
